Pre K 4 Full Time
Mariela Ortiz - Pre K 4 Full Time
My name is Mariela Ortiz, I was born in the Dominican Republic and I’m 27 years old. I came to the United states when I two years old. My position at Super kickers will be Head Teacher, I will be working with the Preschoolers and I will be introducing them to a variety of activities. I’m in the process of obtain my degree in Early childhood education at Borough of Manhattan Community College. As a child I was always a curious learner and I was always asking questions. I love to explore new things and I enjoy nature. Learning through nature is one of the things I enjoy and I know children do to. My first experience working with children started at Hanover Child Care. I spend six years working with infants to preschoolers as assistant teacher. My experience at Hanover child care was fulling. I then, transition to a Montessori school in long Island City where I learned different approaches in educating children. One method that I learned is how children can use real materials to explore their functions and environment. I currently work at Mi Nuevo Mundo as an assistant teacher in Universal pre kindergarten. Working for universal Pre kindergarten has been a great experience because I enjoy interacting with children. One of the things that I enjoy is exploring new things and being able to do that with children is extraordinary. For instances, learning about why the seasons change or why a caterpillar becomes a butterfly makes learning fun. One of the themes that I introduce to my students was plants. During this theme the students learned what a plant is and what are the parts of a plant. They also learned how to plant a seed and how to take care of plant. As an activity I used a game where the students would have to place the parts of the plant together. Another activity that we did was placing soil into a box and placing seeds. The students would count the seeds that were in the soil and name what seed it is. Another activity that I did was making different flowers using papers plates, pipe cleaner, cups, and other materials. This summer being able to teach at Super Kickers will be an adventure that I will enjoy. I'm very excited to meet the wonderful new students. We are going to have a great summer camp full of fun and new experiences.
Pre K 4 Class 2
Rafaela - Pre-4 Class 2
I'm Rafaela Velloso, a 27 years old who loves teaching! I am an undergrad student completing my bachelors in childhood education. Working with children has been my passion. I feel honored to be a part of each child's progress and growth! I become energized when surrounded by their conversation and creativity.
Working with children is rewarding in many ways, but also very challenging at times. Kids teach us patience, virtue, peace, calm, the value of time and many other qualities that contribute to the smile on my face and overall job satisfaction.
My field placements, have afforded me the opportunity to work with a wide range of ages and cognitive abilities. Each was a memorable experience and having the chance to work at Super Kickers has given me the privilege to work with what I love.

For most of the last 18 years, I have worked in the after-school world in NYC, teaching music and jewelry-making classes, or running the programs, and since the summer of 2012, I have worked with Superkickers.
I studied voice and piano with various instructors over the years and I taught myself most of the skills needed to make, design and sell jewelry. I released a cd of songs titled Wendy Wills in 2006 and am always working on the next album in some way. But I love working with children; I love watching them grasp a concept, learn a skill, share a talent. We can learn a lot from children about joy. It is a privilege to spend time with children, to see and hear the world as they do.
It is a privilege to be able to share my love and interest in piano playing and music and jewelry-making with them. It is a privilege and joy to watch them learn and grow and feel good about their successes and accomplishments.

Chris Holt - Lego Coach
Hello! My name is Chris Holt, the Lego coach here at Super Kickers. I am from Sunnyside, NY, just a short 7 train ride away. I am a sophomore attending Bentley University, a school just outside of Boston, studying Finance. During my free time, I enjoy skateboarding with my friends and exploring new areas.
Being a Super Kickers coach was great last year! I enjoyed being able to direct a class with projects similar to those I would build when I was younger, as well as getting to know each of our students. My favorite part of teaching is seeing the final results of each project. I am always impressed by the final outcome as all students start out with the same directions and end with totally unique creations.
From week to week, I create lesson plans for each class, instructing a main idea and chassis for the project. Once the foundation of the project is completed, children are encouraged to experiment and initiate their own creative insight with the use of colors, patterns, materials, and the overall aesthetic of their Lego creation. Throughout the camp, our students will have a wide variety of Lego projects to complete, such as vehicles (cars, airplanes, helicopters, and more) and the re-creation of specific scenes or events. Students will also be given the opportunity to use their imagination and suggest their own ideas to ensure that everyone is included and engaged.
